Gary and I are pleased to announce that The Carman Lay Foundation has officially signed its agreement with The Maryland School for the Blind to fund programs that will benefit MSB students. The agreement was put in place to establish music and aquatic programs as priorities for funding,  Carman had a great love of music – her favorites were Collective Soul and the Rolling Stones. People who knew her saw how she felt music in a different way and how it touched her soul. Carman also loved swimming. She spent every Tuesday evening swimming at the pool at MSB with her dad, Gary, and her summers floating around her Nana and Papa’s pool in the Outer Banks. She loved the freedom, independence and feeling of weightlessness it gave her. This agreement focuses funding on these areas and allows changes to be made, based on the needs of MSB students, with input from both MSB and the Carman Lay Foundation board.

We thank Dr. Michael Bina, president of MSB, Carolyn Kilgore, Director of Development at MSB and Robin Churchill, Chief Financial Officer of MSB, as well as the board of the Carman Lay Foundation, for their input, thoughtfulness, and many discussions in drafting and formalizing the relationship between the Foundation and MSB. We look forward to funding many programs at MSB and helping students and their families to have similar experiences that will change their lives and expand their outlook, the way they did for Carman.

Dr. Bina with Tricia and Gary, signing the agreement
