It’s 6 weeks before this year’s “Swirl for a Girl”, and we are gearing up for a very exciting evening!

We are honored to have Mary Beth Marsden of WBAL Radio serve as our emcee. Mary Beth, WBAL radio and TV will be giving “Swirl” a lot of media coverage. An 11TV Hill interview with Tricia Lay, “Swirl” Chairwoman, will air on April 15th at 11:30am and on April 16th and 20th on WBAL Plus. We’ll post the segment to our website.

We have some pretty amazing silent auction items. Ed Roland of Collective Soul, one of Carman’s favorite bands, donated an autographed guitar that all rock-n-rollers will want! We have some wonderful vacation getaways to the Outer Banks and Bethany Beach, a 2-night stay at the Brass Lantern Inn in Stowe, VT and others. The silent auction also features some unique home entertainment experiences. Bari Alyse, a New York City-area comedian, will come to your home to provide an evening of laughter for you and your guests. An “Elegant Affair”, one of the best caterers in Baltimore and “Swirl’s” caterer, is offering a cocktail party for 20 people. We also have tickets to Raven and Orioles sporting events and “evening out” packages at local restaurants and jewelry and artwork and much more.

The Generation Gap Band, last year’s popular jazz performer at “Swirl”, is returning to provide music for the evening.

We are putting the final touches on our menu and wine selections which we are sure our guests will enjoy. In addition, the culinary students at MSB are creating special chocolate treats for our guests.

We have received a tremendous amount of support and media coverage from WBAL Radio and TV.

We appreciate the support from our donors and look forward to celebrating with you at “Swirl for a Girl” on Saturday, May 5th.

We were thrilled with the results of last year’s first annual “Swirl for a Girl” and thank the many people, vendors, and organizations that supported us. We were able to raise more than $27,000 for The Carman Lay Foundation (CLF), which will fund music and aquatic programs for students at The Maryland School for the Blind (MSB). As we prepare for this year’s “Swirl for a Girl” and ask again for sponsorships and support, we want to acknowledge those groups that helped make “Swirl for a Girl” a success:

The Wine Source of Hamden donated all of the wine and beer for the wine tasting. We appreciate David Wells’ generosity!

Reliant Seafood donated the seafood for the event, and our guests enjoyed tuna steaks, crab, and shrimp.

Two Chaps designed our logo, invitation and save the date cards, website, brochure and event posters. John and Sean created a wonderful brand image for The Carman Lay Foundation. Did you know that the stars above the girl in our logo spell “Carman Lay” in Braille?

Lewis Direct generously donated printing services, allowing us to reach Swirl attendees and thousands of MSB/CLF supporters. In addition, Lewis Direct’s years of experience working with non-profits gave us valuable insight as to how we communicate with our supporters and donors.

Agora and Stansberry & Associates graciously allowed us to host last year’s Swirl at their beautiful offices in the historic Ross R. Winans Mansion in downtown Baltimore.

AA Signs donated the event posters that recognized our very generous sponsors.

Students in the MSB Career Education Department hand-dipped a variety of delicious chocolate-covered treats that our guests thoroughly enjoyed.

We are excitedly planning this year’s Swirl and seek corporate sponsors interested in connecting with the MSB and CLF communities to help make this year’s event a success. Please click here for sponsorship opportunities.

If you are a vendor and would like to donate an item for our silent auction, please contact us at 410-812-3516 or email the board@TheCarmanLayFoundation.org.

We are currently seeking wine and beer donations for this year’s Swirl. Please contact us at 410-812-3516 or theboard@TheCarmanLayFoundation.org if you would like to be our Wine Sponsor.

As always, we appreciate your efforts and contributions. You are helping to enhance the life of hundreds of children with special needs.
